Dude.

wut

I was just talking about this the other day! The english language.

I don’t get it…. ;  n ;

The context changes depending on how you say it.
“I never said she stole my money.” = Speaker is implying that while they weren’t the one who said it, someone did.
“I never said she stole my money.” = Puts emphasis on the fact they apparently didn’t say it, and probably wouldn’t ever do such a thing.
“I never said she stole my money.” = Speaker is implying that just because they didn’t say it, doesn’t mean they weren’t thinking it.
“I never said she stole my money.” = Speaker is saying someone else other than the accused stole their money.
“I never said she stole my money.” = The money wasn’t stolen as what may have been previously implied/assumed by whoever they’re speaking to; it could’ve instead been borrowed or been given as a gift.
“I never said she stole my money.” = While it wasn’t their money that was stolen, someone’s money was stolen.
“I never said she stole my money.” = Something was stolen, but it wasn’t their money.
Of course, you can imply lots of other fun things by stressing additional words, like saying “I never said she stole my money” tells the listener that the person speaking feels offended at the person they’re speaking would accuse them of saying the “she” stole their money; it’s likely either a case of someone putting words in their mouth, or the speaker is blustering to cover up the fact they did in fact say such a thing. Something to that effect, anyway.
Isn’t English fun? |D

This is why it really, really sucks to not be able to accurately gauge tone of voice. Seriously. I also can’t read facial expressions, and it seriously impedes my communication skills in the offline world. Especially since modulating my own tone and face are difficult, so I have to concentrate rather a lot on acting it out just right or people will consistently think I’ve meant something that I didn’t say. sigh

Wow.

You guys are blowing this out of proportion. It wouldn’t be nearly as ambiguous if it weren’t taken out of context.
